Prophecy: Our Response

Hello there!

I trust this series has been a blessing to you as much as  it has been a huge blessing to me. If you haven’t read any of the previous thoughts  please do read the first one here and the second one, which talks about the effects of prophecy on the believer here.

Today, I hope to write briefly on what our response should be to prophecies.

Now, one very important thing the Bible teaches us is this;

Despise not prophesyings. 1 Thessalonians 5:20

This implies that, in the ultimate, our response to prophecy is honor.

One tendency we must always look out for is Familiarity,  especially in church/believer circles where the prophetic is a norm. We tend to get too familiar, such that when prophecies come, they no longer hold weight to us. We just hear them, get excited about them and forget about them. Then we begin to despise prophecies.

Our response must be honor, no matter how many times you receive prophetic words in a day.

One of the ways we honor prophecies is by writing.

Habakkuk 2:2 KJV

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

One great thought in that bible verse is that when you write, you run.  This is basic. When we write down the things God has said concerning us, they help us to remember God’s promises and hold on to them.  Putting down these things is strength for our journey.

Going back to what you’ve written  helps you take stock of which of these promises you are already seeing in your life, and which ones have come to pass. This helps us to actually judge God faithful!  And the ones that are yet to be seen, this pushes you to pray some more!

And yes! This is another way we respond to  prophecies. I remember in my last post that I said that prophecies furnish us, and how that Timothy was equipped by prophecy.

1 Timothy 4:14 KJV

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Then we see Paul telling Timothy in 2Tim 1:6 to stir up the gift of God In Him which He received.

2 Timothy 1:6 KJV

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

When prophecies come to us, we stir up the reality communicated. Don’t just be passive. No. Don’t just write down prophecies. Pray them to reality. Call them to be. According to Romans 4:17, God calls the things that be not as though they were. If truly we are of His nature as believers, then we can also call things that are not as though they are.  We take authority by our words.

Don’t just sit there. Act! Pray those prophecies to be. Call them forth in the name of Jesus

For example, If someone says to you by prophecy that there is an anointing upon you for some sort of leadership, you’ve just been equipped by prophecy! Begin to declare “I call forth this gift of God in me in the name of Jesus. I give expression to this anointing in my life!” Pray in tongues! Build yourself up into that reality. Stir it up! It is your responsibility! God will bring His words to pass, but He needs you to partner with Him in prayer.

He wants you to seek, so you can find. He wants you to knock, that the door might be opened unto you. That’s how it works.

Meditate on the promises you have written down. You can’t afford to be passive.

If there are prophecies you are not seeing their manifestation yet, it’s okay. Stay with it. Pray through it. Believe through it!

Another way we respond to prophecies is that we rejoice!  Yes. That is the response of someone who believes God’s word.

Psalm 119:162 KJV

I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.

Laugh about it. Dance about it. Sing about it. God is faithful. That’s the response of someone who believes God’s word.

I believe with this understanding, the new year is going to be amazing as we stay on God’s promises in the scriptures and His promises to us through personal prophecies, His promises to our local churches through prophetic words and His promises to our friends and families.

It can only get better! I call you victorious!

From me to you, Happy New Year!

Prophecy: What happens to us?

Hello!  I hope you were blessed by my first post in this series. If you haven’t read it, please do here

Before I get into my thought for today, I will like to say a couple of things.

Firstly, every believer can prophesy because it is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the believer as seen in 1 Corinthians 12. This implies that every believer can operate in any of the gifts stated in that scripture, be it prophecy, discerning of spirits, healing, miracles. Whatever it is, you can walk in it by faith.

However, this is totally different from being a prophet. That you prophesy does not in any way make you a prophet. Not everyone can be a pastor, teacher, apostle, evangelist or prophet. These are offices God specifically calls certain people into as seen in Ephesians 4:11-13. Prophecy as I said is simply declaring God’s intentions. It is not foretelling. However, when it comes to the office of a prophet, then you will begin to see other elements of the prophetic in a larger scale. You begin to see more expressions of revelation gifts, as in word of knowledge and word of wisdom, which can also contain predictive elements as seen in the story of Agabus in Acts 11:28 and 21:11. This is different from what you see in Acts 21:8-9 that talks of four daughters of Philip that prophesied. It did not say they were prophets. It’s two different things.  It’s in the office of the prophet that you also see expressions of the seer dimension and of course the gift of prophecy is also in play. All these to the end that the church be edified, equipped for the work of ministry as seen in verse 12 of Ephesians 4. This implies that prophecy is just an element of the prophetic.

Prophecy comes from a desire to love people. It comes from a desire to encourage people and bless them.
EditProphecy is removing ashes and covering people with a mantle of joy.
Prophecy is bringing healing to people. When it is released, it is strength for the weary, direction for the confused and calm for the troubled.

I hope this brings some answer to questions that may bother people’s hearts.
Now to my thought for today;

What happens to us when prophecies are released over us? Today, I will like to share on the potency of prophecies. I will just leave you with two quick thoughts.

1. Prophecies are activators!  This doesn’t just sound cool. This is reeeaalllly cool. 😎

In John 6:63, Jesus says that the words that are released are capable of giving life. This is a fundamental knowledge of prophecies. When prophecies are spoken over us, they go ahead to activate the reality communicated.  For example, if I prophesy over you, and say you will begin to see so and so manifestations of God in your life, what just happened is that I just created an atmosphere for the expression of those things. In fact, I just activated them! That’s how powerful prophecies are. We can see an Old Testament type of this when God told Ezekiel to prophesy over dry bones. Mahn, they came back to life!

1 Timothy 4:14 is a good one.

1 Timothy 4:14 KJV

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Did you see the word “given” there? Yeah. That’s exactly what it means!  It is translated from  the word “didõmi” which means to “supply, furnish, to give one something to his own advantage…”. This implies that prophecies furnish us. Prophecies equip us! I mean, we can clearly see from that verse that Timothy was furnished by prophecy! We shouldn’t make light of prophecies.

Despise not prophesyings

2. Prophecies edify. We see this in 1 Corinthians 14:3-4

1 Corinthians 14:3-4 KJV

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. [4] He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

The word edify actually means to build up (like an edifice), to charge (like a battery). It also means to refresh. Edification is an act of promoting another’s Christian growth. What amazes me is that this is the same word used to describe what speaking in other tongues does to the believer! 1 Corinthians 14:4.

When you speak in tongues, you are edified. When you are being prophesied to,  you are edified. This means that prophecies do to the church what speaking in tongues does to an individual! This is how powerful prophecies can be. In fact, the amazing Apostle Paul says he’d rather you prophesy!

There are other things prophecies do to us as seen in scriptures. Prophecies comfort us, encourages us and reassures us.

Like I said, this is not exhaustive. You still need to go back to study God’s word. However, I believe this is some basic stuff to know.

My last post in this series will be on how we should respond to prophecies, and from there we can run with everything God is telling us for the new season ahead.

I call you blessed

Prophecy: God’s got something to say

What if I say prophecy is not foretelling or predicting the future?
What if I say prophecy is beyond all of that, it’s much more?
You have every right to be confused.

Today, my intention is simple; to reveal briefly, but clearly the heart of what prophecy is,  and how we can take full advantage of it in the church. Let’s get into this.

Prophecy is, in simple terms, declaring God’s intentions. Very simple. Don’t get it twisted.

You see,  we need to come to terms with the fact that God is not complicated. Any twists or complications that come with God’s word are not God-ordained. It’s us.

1 Corinthians 14:3 KJV

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

Jeremiah 29:11. For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the LORD. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.

Prophecy comes to the end that you see God’s intentions as of peace and not evil to give you hope for the future. Prophecy is to the end that you are comforted and encouraged.

If it creates restlessness, fear, lack of sleep, mahn! That’s something else. It’s not prophecy. And if it’s not prophecy, it’s not God. God will never communicate to you by fear. 2 Tim 1:7

For example, if I say to you, “Brother, you are going to enter into some trials that with rock your faith. You will face loads of disappointments in the days to come. Do not fear if your teenage daughter comes home pregnant says the Spirit of the Lord”.  What?!!😱  That’s not prophecy. Not at all. It did not in anyway comfort you, edify or encourage you.  It did not assure your heart that God’s will is good unto an expected end. That message only communicated fear.

What if I say, “Brother, I see the Lord strengthen you in the days to come. He is making crooked paths straight for you. He’s got your back and your daughter’s too. I see a glorious future ahead of her. He will not allow situations to crush you. I believe this is God’s thought towards you in this season”.   Now that’s prophecy! It’s comforting, it’s soothing, it’s refreshing, it’s not scary. That’s how it’s meant to be.

It’s so easy to operate in this expression of God’s Spirit. A prophecy can be as simple as a scripture impressed on your heart for a brother or sister.

It could be as simple as saying to a friend, “be still and know that I am God”. Those words are potent, cos they are inspired by God’s Spirit.

There’s so much to learn about prophecy and other elements of the prophetic. It’s just okay for now to know these basics.  God’s got something to say. That’s the spirit of prophecy. There’s so much for the church to learn from God’s word.

My next post will be talking about what prophecies do to us. These write-ups are not exhaustive at all. We still need to go back to God’s word. These are just basics.

I call you blessed.

Hat to hat talk

Hello there! Merry Christmas! Well,  it’s not like the atmosphere feels like it. But thank God for the reality that “Christ came to the world to save sinners”.

It’s no news that we were messed up! But by His appearance, we are no longer what we were, but who He wants us to be- His Righteousness, Sons and Daughters of the Most High.

I have a simple thought in mind to share on this platform.

Yesterday, I came across a woman wearing a hat. Well, it’s not like there’s a big deal about a woman’s hat, is there? The only problem here is that her hat was all worn out and old.

But thinking about this hat, what struck me was that the hat was once new! Yes. No matter how it looks now, that woman once wore her hat with some excitement. Well,  not again, I suppose.

And it got me thinking of how we have amazing experiences with God in the process of going through our normal routine of praying and reading God’s word. And how that people let go of these things and every thing begins to feel old and dry again. And we begin to feel like, “well I prayed two days ago, that should do…”

I believe it’s time we begin to understand the importance of waking up with a sense of freshness daily to our God-process. This is where are strength comes from. Waking up daily with a new hat (heart). Waking daily in a God-direction.

My simple thought is that you are a better Christian for it. Don’t go about with your old hats. There is much more in God to explore.

I believe in your God-process as we step into a new season (year).

…breeds contempt

A metaphor

The radiance of her face on a bright sunny day
The sway of her garment in the wind
The beauty that pulls you in her pleasantness
Nobility visible in every step
Virtue in her countenance
She is ointment to the eyes
Sweet smelling savor to the senses

Don’t get too close though.
Don’t get too close;
Lest you see her linen and scorn her
Lest you see the flaws of her body and despise her

Don’t get too close;
Lest you see the moles on her breasts, and they aren’t as perfect as you thought.
Lest you become presumptuous, and her form and curves count no more

Don’t get too close;
Lest you get too acquainted with the kisses of her lips and you lose interest in what you once longed for.
Lest you begin to treat as common the locking of your eyes and the holding of your hands
And there is no more regard for the moments you shared together.

Honor becomes contempt
Beauty returns to ashes
And you denounce her where you once praised her

You are getting too familiar

Praise For My Journey!

Hello!

Isn’t God good? Yeah, He sure is! Halleluyah! I’ve been really excited today getting to live in the consciousness that God’s got my back! This is sequel to my post earlier in the day God of My Journeys. Taking out time to just give back praise opened my eyes to really see some of the truths in these scripture verses;

Hebrews 13:5-6 KJV

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. [6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Isn’t it just amazing to know that You’ve got God watching your back?! That’s like WOW!

The Lord is my helper!

2 Corinthians 4:13, 16, 18 KJV

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; [16] For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. [18] While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

This is also another beautiful one. Says that despite the fact that it doesn’t really feel like “it” on the outside, my inside is getting stronger!

And so, today, I really let out some praise, and I feel so refreshed!

Special thanks to Andy Oldham and Pete Gardner for such encouraging words that stemmed from their experiences in walking with the Lord.

To the One who’s got my back

To the One who walks my journeys

To the One who knows my name

To the One who takes my praise

Who deserves my praise, my song, my poetry;

Thank you!!!

I call you blessed.

God of my journeys

Hello there!

It’s been a lil’ while since I last wrote here. Well, it’s a necessary break I had to take😕.

I will like to share a thought on here, hoping it will bless someone.

The last few weeks for me has been a lot. A lot of learning, though not pleasant. A lot of chastening. A couple of discouraging moments for me. It’s been… Crazy😨. I felt like I wasn’t getting anything right. Everywhere I turned, I kept on seeing how much I was getting it all wrong!  And my only comfort has been the consciousness that God is on this journey with me.

In this season, He has helped me see how much I need to learn about life and ministry. When He began to show me where I had been falling short, He helped me realise that He wasn’t condemning me. No. He was helping me see how much I need His help on my journey.

One major thing I learnt is that when God shows you where He is taking you to, He won’t just throw you there. He is not just a God of fulfillment. He is also a God of process.

God wants His children to go through process, learn and come out “made”. So He shows us the truth about where we are at the moment, and helps us to improve on it.

Writing this at this moment, I can only conclude that

1. He is good, and He has my best interest at heart.

2. Without controversy, He is the God of my journeys. He’s got my back and yours too.

God is love. There is no fear in Him. He will not communicate by fear or some sort of terror. He desires to see His children come out just like Him; blameless, without offence.

I hope this blessed you.

#2

I hear loud sounds of rejoicing in the camp of the righteous. Loud sounds of praise going up to heavens hemisphere. I hear the song of the victors as they march the streets of Zion, as they cry with loud shouts of joy, for the lamb has overcome.

From the east to the west, the revelation of His love is expressed Men are set free from the fears that held them in captivity.

Who are these ones who have come to know the joyful sound? They are the ones who just tasted. They saw and they declare that Yahweh is good. They have vowed to make His praises known, to testify of His goodness unto them; Bringing them out of darkness into light by the hands of them whom He has ordained to shine as lights and sweet smelling fragrance on the earth.

Oh how beautiful is their  song! The ears of the earth is full of these melodious sounds. This is the season of praise. Praise like no other. Stomping of feet like herds of wildebeests. For the kingdom of our God and His Christ has come to us in power,  in righteousness, in peace, in joy,  rejoicing in the Holy Ghost!

Something is happening! My mouth can’t explain, but my heart understands.

Let the shouts in Zion cease not. Let the rejoicing of the believer cease not. Let the songs of praise cease not. Something is happening.

He who sits on the throne lets out a sound, drawing all men unto Himself. Hosts of angels are at work with the inhabitants of Zion. Mighty works of His power like never before is displayed in the eyes of the earth. I rejoice at Your works. Something is happening!

Who will hear this sound and resist? For He has not called you unto perdition. At the sound of this trumpet, Let the dwellers of the earth run. Let they of the world run! Run to the Father’s call. Run! Run!

I hear this sound resound all over the earth. The great harvest has come!  The sickle has been let out. Let them run! Let them run to the rising of the sun.

Something is happening.

1 Timothy 1:18 KJV

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
